New Summit County Sheriff's Lt. Kacey Bates is second woman to hold position

The newest Summit County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant is Kacey Bates, the second woman to hold a sworn command position in a county that had its first sheriff in 1861.
Bates was promoted late last month to corrections division lieutenant and jail commander, and is responsible for overseeing the Summit County Jail. Sheriff Justin Martinez called Bates “extremely well-qualified” for the promotion and said she has been a leader in the organization for years.
“Kacey was one of the very first females to ever get hired in the Summit County Sheriff’s Office in a corrections position,” Martinez said. “She is a pioneer in this arena.” ....

Summit County Manager Tom Fisher, who is also a brigadier general in the Utah National Guard, paused during one of the more unusual meetings he’d convened in his time in the top post of the county’s government.

PHOENIX The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks, @LosDbacks) will host their seventh annual high school graduation at the team’s academy in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic today and virtually from Arizona to the D.R. The graduates will hear from D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall, Executive Vice President & General Manager Mike Hazen and Hall’s Senior Advisor and D-backs legend, Luis Gonzalez, among others.
The first-of-its-kind program will see nine students graduate from high school (Emmanuel Acosta, Johan Benitez, Francis Beriguete, Neyfy Castillo, Justin Martinez, Angel Ortiz, Yoscar Pimentel, Jhonny Valdez and Jose Valdez), bringing the total number of 12th-grade graduates to 64 during the first seven years of the program. ....

Summit County officials file conflict disclosure forms

New County Councilor Malena Stevens joined Glenn Wright in declaring no conflicts, while Roger Armstrong declared that he owns his own law firm and that his wife, Beth Armstrong, is the executive director of the People’s Health Clinic, which receives grants and office space from Summit County.
Councilors Doug Clyde and Chris Robinson reported more extensive potential conflicts, with Clyde’s centered around his career as a land planner and Robinson’s around his vast land holdings.
Clyde’s clients in Summit County include Village Development Group, which is the master developer of Silver Creek Village, and a separate developer looking to build 139 units there, CW Lands Company. ....
