Coronado puts himself on the map in short season [The Record, Stockton, Calif]
Three months ago, Kimball junior quarterback Nicholas Coronado stood at the corner of South Lammers Street and Eleventh Avenue in Tracy and became a leading voice at Kimball for wanting high school sports back.
“We are going to keep trying. We are not going to stop,” Coronado said on Jan. 15 as high schools across California held #LetThemPlay rallies to bring prep sports back. “We are going to keep fighting for what we want and what we believe is best for us kids.”
A few months later, Coronado says that day was the turning point in getting high school football a five-game season. ....

1. Laura Campos brings annual Charles Washington award back to Edison High 
Campos was named the 2020 winner of The Stockton Record’s Charles Washington Award. The award is given each year to an outstanding student-athlete who is also supportive of the community. After graduating from Edison High, the golfer and softball player enrolled at UCLA, reported The Record.   ....

Stockton 911: Lodi police seeking public’s help in June 2020 slaying
The Lodi Police Department is asking the public to come forward if they have any information in the ongoing investigation into a 2020 homicide in which a man was shot to death.
On June 14, 2020, Robert Ramirez, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene on the 100 block of South Washington Street after being shot. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Lodi Police Department at (209) 333-6727, Detective Jimenez at (209) 269-4838 or email [email protected]. In other crime-related news, Tom Akeman, 31, was arrested by Stockton police Tuesday on suspicion of weapon charges and an outstanding warrant. Akeman was on Lincoln Street and Weber Avenue at about 11:30 a.m. when a compliance search of his vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded firearm; he was prohibited from possessing firearms. ....

Tigers Notebook: Stoudamire says no morale victories after good showing against Zags [The Record, Stockton, Calif]
STOCKTON University of the Pacific men’s basketball head coach Damon Stoudamire was pleased with the Tigers’ effort against No. 1 Gonzaga. Ultimately, however, college basketball is a results oriented business.
“We are not happy about losing,” Stoudamire said. “We are past that here. We had a lot of opportunities. We missed a lot of open shots.”
