Republicans defend Price after participation in Capitol rally


RICHMOND — As calls for his expulsion from the Rhode Island House of Representatives continued to grow Monday, Rep. Justin Price (R-Richmond, Hopkinton, Exeter) maintained that while he had attended President Donald Trump’s Washington, D.C., rally last Wednesday, he had not been involved in the riot at the Capitol. 
“I went down there for a rally that was supposed to be peaceful,” he said Monday. “I did not agree with the chaos and did not get involved in the chaos.”
State and local Republicans either defended Price’s attendance at the rally or declined to comment on the matter. ....

RICHMOND  Online rebuke of state Rep. Justin Price snowballed quickly Saturday after he blamed antifa for storming the U.S. Capitol last week and called those he marched with to overturn the presidential election  patriots.
But in this wooded corner of the state west of Route 95, residents want to know more about what Price, a Republican, did or didn t do in support of President Donald Trump in Washington before joining in calls for his ouster.
I don t agree with the riot, but it is OK to protest, said Jack Benavides, 20, from his doorstep on the Hopkinton side of Price s House District 39. I feel like there were people who were there who didn t go inside. If he was just protesting in the rally, that s OK. ....

RI lawmakers call for Trump ouster


PROVIDENCE  The Rhode Island Senate on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a resolution condemning the violent invasion of the U.S. Capitol last week and calling for President Donald Trump’s removal from office.
The state House of Representatives is expected to follow suit when it convenes next week, a day ahead of President-elect Joseph Biden s inauguration. Freshman Rep. Brandon Potter, D-Cranston, sponsored the House resolution.
Leaders across America should be demanding accountability from those who participated in this seditious act, starting with the person who incited it: Donald Trump,” said Potter, who has also called for the resignation of state Republican Rep. Justin Price of Richmond. ....

Rhode Island Republican state Rep. Justin Price marched to the U.S. Capitol on January 6 for what became the deadly pro-Trump riot. Price has also promoted coronavirus and QAnon conspiracy theories that originated from social media and far-right media. 
Price is facing calls from fellow Rhode Island lawmakers to resign after his participation in the January 6 insurrection in Washington, D.C. He has responded by tweeting that he “marched to the capitol with 1 million peaceful patriots” and by echoing right-wing media by falsely claiming: “Unfortunately ANTIFA /BLM infiltrated our peaceful movement and they got caught in the act.” He has said that he did not enter the Capitol building.  ....
