Wicked Local MANSFIELD – The Mansfield fire and police departments has celebrated a year’s worth of promotions and new hires. The swearing-in ceremony held June 2 at the public safety building had been delayed repeatedly over the past year due to COVID restrictions. As a result, seven firefighters and five police officers were sworn in together by Town Clerk Marianne Staples with parents, spouses and children all looking on. “Some have been waiting awhile for this night,” Fire Chief Justin Desrosiers said. “Unfortunately, a lot of the promotions and hires tonight were in the midst of the COVID pandemic. “As we all worked tirelessly through the pandemic Chief Sellon and myself sat down many times to plan a promotional ceremony. Every time we would try and plan one working around the restrictions at the time we always came to the conclusion that it would be in the best interest of the people being recognized if we just waited.” ....
2 Mansfield movie theater slated to open early in 2021 Apple Cinemas made plans to renovate the former Sports Authority space at Mansfield Crossing into a 10-theater boutique cinema with a total of 720 seats. The theater screens first-run films, offers luxury seating and plans to have food and alcohol service in the theaters and the lobby. The Planning Board unanimously approved a special permit for a new movie theater at the School Street shopping plaza on Jan. 15. MANSFIELD â Two local police officers are home recuperating from COVID-19 and two firefighters who also contracted the highly contagious virus are back to work. The two police officers tested positive about a week and a half ago and were exposed to the disease during an out-of-town training session despite the social distancing and other safety measures, Police Chief Ron Sellon said Monday. The officers were notified by state officials who held the training and were tested by the fire department, which conducts COVID-19 testing for town employees, Sellon said Fire Chief Justin Desrosiers said. The officers did not have to be hospitalized, according to the police chief. ....
