Inertia Music co-founder Justin Cosby passes away, aged 50

Justin Cosby, co-founder and head of A&R at Inertia Music, passed away on Friday. He was 50 years old.
In 2000, Cosby and best friend Ashley Sellars set up Inertia Music, with boxes piling up in a living room and maxed out credit cards.
It later expanded to become an influential record label and distribution company with scores of employees and divisions including Fairgrounds Festival, Handsome Tours, Gaga Music and Collective Artists.
Cosby and Sellars’ original plan for the in-house record label was to release EDM music, but through the years, Inertia launched or consolidated the careers of Sia, Björk, Ben Lee, Ali Barter, Mildlife, IDLES, Cigarettes After Sex, Nils Frahm, Jai Wolf, Neil and Liam Finn, Hockey Dad, Odesza, M83, Asgeir and Robyn, among others. ....

Justin Cosby, co-founder and director of A&R at Inertia Music, one of Australia’s leading independent music companies of the past two decades, passed away last Friday (June 25). He was 50.
Cosby’s death was announced in statement issued Saturday by Inertia, the Sydney-based independent music company, which described the late executive as a “loving partner, dedicated friend” and “inquisitive music lover.”
Cosby’s “inexhaustible, enduring love of music and the relationships he invested in, personal and professional, will be his legacy,” reads the statement. ....

The Collegiate 100 Armstrong Campus Chapter has been named one of two national chapters of the year.
The Collegiate 100 chapter of Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus in Savannah has been selected as chapter of the year by national parent organization 100 Black Men of America. The Armstrong chapter is one of two collegiate chapters to receive the selection out of the 70 collegiate chapters nationwide. ....

Inertia Music's label group rebrands to [PIAS] Australia, promotes Mari Stuart to head of marketing

Inertia Music’s label group will today become [PIAS] Australia.
The independent group was founded in 2000 by Ashley Sellers and Justin Cosby. It has since worked with the likes of Sia, Ben Lee and Neil Finn.
In 2017, it was acquired by [PIAS], further growing its footprint and bringing it into “one of the largest independent and privately-owned music companies in the world”. Once the sale was completed, managing director Tim Kelly departed.
The new [PIAS] Australia will be the local home of international acts including Arlo Parks, Black Pumas, Claptone, John Grant, Lord Huron and Two Door Cinema Club. Its local repetoire includes Jesswar, Annie Hamilton, Mildlife, Shady Nasty and FRITZ. ....
