CANBERRA Cavalry have been forced to return immediately back to the ACT after having their opportunity to reach the Australian Baseball League championship game in Melbourne dramatically stripped.
The sudden outbreak of the UK strain of coronavirus has caused the Victorian government to call on a five-day state lockdown starting from midnight on Saturday (February 13).
It forced the ABL to cancel Saturday’s preliminary final involving the Cavalry in favour of re-branding Friday night’s qualifying final between both top-ranked teams, Melbourne Aces and Perth Heat, as the new official championship game. ....

Row over allegations that 180 000 Road Accident Fund claims remain unpaid

Cape Town - Lawyers and the Road Accident Fund (RAF) are at loggerheads over allegations that 180 000 claims remain unpaid, leaving victims in dire straits – a claim denied by the RAF.
Personal Injury Plaintiff Lawyers Association chairperson advocate Justin Erasmus said the RAF must adhere to the orders given by the courts, saying the situation was dire in 2020, but now it had deteriorated even further.
Erasmus said the RAF may be telling the courts that all claims over 180 days have been settled, but that was simply not the case. ....

Catastrophic incompetence – Transport Minister reveals bankrupt RAF has a R49.9-bn backlog and 45 000 claims stretching unpaid for more than 10 years. 
THE Personal Injury Plaintiff Lawyers Association (PIPLA) is the latest group of attorneys to add their voice to the mounting allegations of mismanagement, incompetence and non-payment at the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
“As much as the RAF would like to deflect blame, the reality is that claims are piling up and are just not being paid. This is impacting the most vulnerable in our society – road accident victims,” says Advocate Justin Erasmus, Chairperson of PIPLA. ....
