Growing up Black and Jewish, Jungalow designer Justina Blakeney says she struggled to fit in even in a progressive city like Berkeley.
“Within my childhood home, our ‘mixed-ness’ was all I knew,” she writes in her new book, “Jungalow: Decorate Wild” (Abrams, $40). “It was comfortable, fun beautiful even. But outside in the world, things were different. People tried to categorize me and wanted me to categorize myself. I struggled with my ethnic identity, as we all do, feeling like I didn’t totally fit in or belong anywhere. Such mixing is essential to who I am, and I am not alone. People and practices mix all the time. Everything and everyone is mixed. And I believe that we are better off because of it.” ....

While rising vaccination rates are bringing light to the end of the COVID tunnel in the U.S., many places around the world are still struggling significantly with the pandemic with one of the hardest-hit locations being India. There, cases are surging, prompting full hospitals and a dire lack of resources.
So this morning, design superstar Justina Blakeney pledged 50% of today s proceeds from her shop, Jungalow, to Give India.
50% of proceeds from @thejungalow shop will go to @give india today (4/30) to help with medical equipment and aid due to the catastrophic COVID surge there. Sending love to our friends and collaborators and their families in India, Blakeney announced on her own Instagram page. Jungalow followed up with a post on its Instagram page, alongside a photo of Jaipur s Pink Palace. ....
