Adieu Alisa

Adieu Alisa
May 19, 2021
On Sabbath, April 19, 2014, in a first-of-its kind program, Andrews University conducted a conversation with LGBT students that focused on listening, understanding, and caring. A local writer by the name of Alisa Williams covered the event for
Spectrum in the first of many articles that she would write for www.spectrummagazine.org.
The following year, Alisa took on the responsibility of Spirituality Section Editor for
Spectrum. She found and championed writers, essayists, and poets who reflected on the contemplative life. When we put together a team of writers for the General Conference Session in San Antonio that year, Alisa helped with the comprehensive tweeting that changed the way many people followed a GC Session. She also gathered reflections from Millennials to the event where the controversial issue involved ordination of women. In 2017, she became the managing editor of www.spectrummagazine.org. ....

The Meeting at the Eighth Street Church: How Whiteness Oozed into Adventist Culture

The Meeting at the Eighth Street Church: How Whiteness Oozed into Adventist Culture
Written by:
On the 20
th of September 1902, Sabbath morning, the President of the Atlantic Union,[1] H. W. Cottrell, the President of the Chesapeake Conference, E. W. Farnsworth, and the second in command at the General Conference, W. A. Spicer, walked into the Church on Eighth Street, the only Seventh-day Adventist Church in Washington D.C. They arrived on a mission, commissioned by the President of the General Conference, Arthur G. Daniells. The trio bore a colossal task. Upon entering the church, they immediately encountered opposition from church members.[2] Although this meeting may be one of the most consequential in Adventist history, it lingers ignored or unnoticed by most Adventist historians and church members. ....

More than 100 exhibitors, 400 seminars, multiple languages, and people from every time zone will be part of the church s first Adventist Virtual Global Campmeeting, says Tim Aka, Associate Treasurer at the General Conference and coordinator of the upcoming event.
Question: You are helping to organize the first Adventist Virtual Global Campmeeting to be held online from May 19 to 23. How many people do you expect to log on? How many attendees can you handle? What platform will you use?
Answer: We are using a commercial platform by a company called vFairs. They have considerable experience in the virtual conference business, so we have selected them for this event. The platform has been stress tested to handle 15,000 attendees logged in at one time. We expect up to 200,000 people to visit over the course of the Global Campmeeting. ....

Seventh-day Adventist leaders in the Inter-American Division (IAD) began their annual mid-year business meetings on April 27, 2021, by reflecting on God’s leadership, guidance, and blessings throughout the territory during the past quinquennium. Despite the challenges of a lingering pandemic, IAD leaders praised God for His care and protection as the church moves into a new five-year term.
IAD administrators, speaking before executive committee members, called upon God to anoint and equip each church leader and member across IAD with the Holy Spirit to complete the task of spreading the gospel wherever He leads. Leaders also pledged to accomplish the strategies and initiatives of the world church’s I Will Go plan focused on strengthening evangelism, education, and service to the community across the region. ....
