Stopped from drinking at public place, 4 thrash ASI | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: Four men thrashed an ASI and vandalised his PCR van when he stopped them from consuming liquor in a car in Dugri main market on Monday night. After the assault, all four fled. Later, the police traced and arrested two of them, Bobby Singh of Nehri Colony, Dugri, and Gurpal Singh of New Janta Nagar. Gurjinder Singh of Daba and Dilbar Singh of Satguru Nagar are at large. PCR cop ASI Rajinder Singh said, “I was on duty at Dugri Phase 1 market with constable Jagtar Singh. I saw four men consuming liquor in a car in the market. When I objected to it, they started arguing. They then manhandled me and started beating me up in an inebriated condition.”

Ludhiana: Two accused robbed Rs 1.50 lakh at gunpoint from two men near Gill bridge on Sidhwan Canal on Monday night. Ankush Kanda, 20, of Amritsar said in his police complaint, “On Monday, I, along with my family, had come here to visit my aunt Shashi Bala in Guru Nanak Colony-A. My aunt’s husband Madan Sachdeva and son Shivam run a forging factory near their residence close to Gill bridge.” When they were having dinner around 8pm, Madan Sachdeva received a call from a trader to whom he was to pay Rs 1.50 lakh. “My uncle asked me and Shivam’s brother-in-law Babat Sharma to hand over the payment to the trader near Gill bridge. On reaching there, we were waiting for the trader when an SUV pulled over near us. Its occupants pointed a pistol at us, snatched the cash and sped away. There was a man and a woman in the SUV,” he added.

Ludhiana: City businessmen who had given ultimatum to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to waive off the penalties imposed on them under unauthorised use of electricity (UUE) have started their weekly agitation against department from Monday as PSPCL failed to take back the cases. Dozens of businessmen led by Janta Nagar Small Scale Manufacturers Association (JSMA) shouted slogans against the department and also burnt effigy of A Venu Prasad, chairman of the PSPCL. Jaswinder Thukral, president of JSMA, said, “As PSPCL did not budge from its anti-industry stand and has not waived off the penalties imposed on us and UUE cases filed against us for using more power load than sanctioned. The deadline given by us to the department passed last week and the chairman did nothing about these cases we have started our weekly protest under which we will visit every sub-division of PSPCL on every Monday and protest against department along with burning the effigy of chairman.
