The Wildfire Program of Manitoba Conservation and Climate advises that wildfire danger levels remain extremely high across all of southern and central Manitoba, and a number of wildfires are burning across the province. Air-quality warnings have been issued for parts of western and central Manitoba due to smoke.
Manitobans are reminded to avoid wildfire areas, and not to congregate on roadways to watch or take pictures of a fire or firefighting efforts. This practice is extremely dangerous and makes it more difficult for crews to do their job. There is no backcountry travel allowed in the area south of the 53rd parallel at this time, and a number of other fire and travel restrictions remain in effect. ....

FIREFIGHTING crews are working to protect Manitoba Hydro infrastructure near a massive, out-of-control blaze in the isolated northern Interlake.
The 345,000-acre wildfire, situated in forests off Lake Manitoba’s northeastern tip, is more than 80 kilometres long and approximately 16-km wide at its largest point. It sparked May 12.

Fires burning in Manitoba’s Interlake region have forced four more First Nations to begin evacuations, sending vulnerable community members to hotels in Winnipeg and Dauphin.

Forest fires forcing hundreds of evacuations from five Manitoba First Nations

Forest fires and smoke in Manitoba have forced the evacuations of hundreds of residents in five First Nations, including Lake St. Martin, Little Saskatchewan, Dauphin River, Pinaymootang and Skownan First Nations.
“Overnight, the Red Cross was activated to support five First Nations in Manitoba that had to evacuate community members due to proximity of wildfires,” said Jason Small of the Canadian Red Cross.
Currently, there are several wildfires burning across the province, including one in the R.M. of Grahamdale and one in Homebrook.
Small noted that evacuees from four of the First Nations are staying at hotels in Winnipeg, and evacuees from Skownan are staying in Dauphin. ....
