Customer and staff personal data found abandoned in Oasis bins

Private customer and staff data has been found in bins outside the Oasis Leisure Centre.
GLL staff have been clearing out the site since it announced it would not be reopening after the second national coronavirus lockdown last November.
But now a member of the Save The Oasis campaign group says they found un-shredded documents in some of the bins at the site.
Data included customer names, emails and payment schedules for the Oasis as well as other GLL operated sites in Swindon such as the Health Hydro and Link Centre.
It also included staff names, rotas and diaries from when the site was open. ....

Leader urged to get Oasis Leisure Centre heated and ventilated in open letter

Campaigners who want to see the Oasis Leisure Centre reopened as soon as possible have written an open letter to Swindon Borough Council leader David Renard.
There are growing fears over the state of the building in North Star, which has sat abandoned since operator GLL decided in November it was no longer a viable concern. Images shared on the Save Oasis Swindon Facebook page show puddles of water under the famous dome and condensation on the windows.
After a public virtual meeting of the group last week organiser Neil Robinson said he would write to Coun Renard asking for an immediate assessment of the state of the building, which has been shut since October, and the costs of getting it minimally operational again. ....

Councillors calling for answers over closure of Oasis Leisure Centre

THERE are calls for an investigation into Swindon Borough Council’s dealings with landlord Seven Capital after the closure of the Oasis Leisure Centre.
And Labour councillors are also keen to find out whether Oasis’ last operator, GLL, is moving equipment from the venue in North Star to other leisure facilities it runs in the borough or elsewhere – and if any of it belongs to the council.
GLL says the items removed are its property and not the council’s.
Kevin Small, who represents Mannington and Western, and Labour group leader Jim Grant, whose Rodbourne Cheney ward includes the Oasis site, have submitted a motion to be debated and voted on at next week’s full council meeting. ....
