Coimbatore: The rural police on Thursday arrested two men for cheating a textile mill owner of Rs 20 lakh. They had bought Rs 20 lakh worth bundles of warp thread from the mill owner and failed to pay the amount. The arrested were identified as Rajesh, 42, and Dhanabal, 38, both from Pillaiyappampalayam. The duo was booked under sections 294 (b) (uttering obscene words), 420 (cheating) and 506 (i) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. They were remanded in judicial custody on Friday morning. P Senthilkumar, 45 from Andikadu, owns a textile mill at Sedapalayam near Somanur. Police said Rajesh and Dhanabal had bought warp and weft thread from Senthilkumar in the last two years. But they failed to pay Rs 20 lakh for the goods purchased from the mill owner. ....

Thirunavukkarasar has strongly condemned the railway administration s announcement that the Tiruchi - Rameswaram - Tiruchi specials would not halt at Keeranur railway station. In a statement issued on Sunday, Mr. Thirunavukkarasar said Keeranur was a town panchayat and a taluk headquarters and people from over 100 villages were coming to this town and leaving everyday. The railway administration should bear in mind that the rail services were being operated for the benefit of the general public and should pass necessary orders to provide stoppage at Keeranur as before, Mr. Thirunavukkarasar said, adding that he had already made appeals to the Railway Ministry, Chairman, Railway Board and Southern Railway General Manager in this regard. ....
Coimbatore: Two people have been arrested for possession of banned tobacco products for sales near Karumathampatti on the outskirts of the city. Police have also seized 300kg gutka worth Rs 3 lakh and a car from the duo. A police officer said Jithendra Kumar, 24, a native of Rajasthan, and Dharvesh, 35, a resident of Mettupalayam, were caught transporting banned tobacco products. Jithendra Kumar, he said, was residing at Somanur. “They tried to divert the route on seeing police personnel involved in vehicle check near Brindavan Nagar in Karumathampatti on Tuesday night. The team, however, managed to stop the vehicle. One of the passengers suddenly got out of the vehicle and fled. The team caught the other two passengers and during the vehicle check they found the trio were transporting banned tobacco products,” the officer said. ....

The police seized 300 kg of banned tobacco products, worth Rs 3 lakh, and a car that was used for transporting them. The arrested men have been identified as Jitendra Kumar, 24, of Rajasthan who residing at Somanur in the district and Dharvesh, 35, of Mettupalayam. Police are also looking for Motilal, in whose shop the accused were working. The Karumathampatti police, who were checking vehicles near Brindavan Nagar on Tuesday night, intercepted a car that was trying to speed away. “As soon as the vehicle was stopped, a man got down from the car and ran away. The police managed to nab the remaining two. Upon checking, police found 300 kg of tobacco products. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the man who fled the spot was Motilal who owns a shop at Somanur. The accused were transporting the tobacco products from a war ....
