Last week that passion was recognized when the resident of Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation was made a Member of the Order of Canada on Dec. 30. In my opinion. If I had a voice, I would ask Indigenous Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennett what is the difference between a vote for “Absolute Surrender” and a vote for “Fee Simple”? (Indian Act Sec. 39) To me there is none. I think it was a ploy to get clear title to all our land. Is that entrapment? Then I would ask how can Indigenous Affairs Band Council Chief sign away our land under “fee Simple” (Burtch Land). There was a vote. “Fee Simple was voted down. So what legal authority did Indigenous Affairs Band Council have to sign away our land? Then I would ask, how can the Province give away land they do not own? On Tuesday, Jan. 12 Six Nations of the Grand River reported two new active cases and seven active in the community. There are about 20,000 band members with between 3-4,000 living in the community making that number account for 3.13 per cent of community members infected since December 25 and the total since March 2020, 125, accounting for 0.62 per cent. Brantford’s total infection rate is 1.13 per cent with 1157 cases since the pandemic started. A family practice physician on Six Nations, who also provides care at the Iroquois Lodge Nursing Home received the first of the two-dose Pfizer vaccine on Friday at Hamilton Health Sciences.
