Amid the largest school outbreak yet, officials hope a new testing program will keep Park City students in class

Park City’s secondary students returned to school on Monday after nearly two weeks of remote learning, but as per usual during the pandemic, it was far from a typical school day.
Throughout the morning, the district summoned 900 students from Treasure Mountain Junior High School and Park City High School to the high school gym for rapid COVID-19 antigen tests on the first day of what officials call the “Test to Stay” program. ....

2 Park City schools move to remote learning after post-break COVID spike

Park City High School and Treasure Mountain Junior High School were slated to move to remote learning starting Wednesday after COVID-19 case numbers spiked following students’ return from winter break.
shows that the high school had 16 active cases of COVID-19 while Treasure Mountain had six. State and federal guidelines recommend shutting a school that has 15 or more active cases.
Superintendent Jill Gildea indicated in a message announcing the move that in-person learning would resume at both schools no later than Monday, Jan. 25. The schools have a combined population of more than 2,000 students.
Gildea said that once in-person learning returns, the district will test every student and staff member at those schools at least once every two weeks, a program known as “test to stay.” ....
