SONOMA COUNTY, CA The County of Sonoma, the Town of Windsor and the cities of Santa Rosa, Cloverdale and Healdsburg reached a collective $31 million settlement with PG&E for damages from the Kincade Fire, the entities announced Wednesday.
The settlement is for damages to public and natural resources caused by the fire that started Oct. 23, 2019, at the Geysers Geothermal Field northeast of Geyserville. The Kincade Fire resulted in the largest evacuation effort in Sonoma County history, forcing more than 200,000 to flee their homes as more than 77,750 acres burned and 374 homes and other structures were destroyed. ....

PG&E Settles With Counties and Cities Over 2019, 2020 Wildfires

PG&E has agreed to pay local governments a combined $43.4 million to compensate for starting fires in 2019 and 2020 that destroyed hundreds of homes, forced mass evacuations and left four people dead in Northern California.
Under the settlement, Sonoma County and several of its cities will share $31 million for the 2019 Kincade Fire. In separate settlements, Shasta and Tehama counties agreed to divvy up a $12.4 million payment to offset damages from the September 2020 Zogg fire.

The utility is still under criminal investigation in the Zogg fire that killed four people. The fire has been blamed on a leaning tree that fell onto a power line in high winds. PG&E has said it believes the tree may have been marked for removal before the fire but cannot say for sure. ....

SONOMA, Calif. - Sonoma County voters will choose whether to recall District Attorney Jill Ravitch from office on September 14.
The effort to oust Ravitch was launched by a real-estate developer whose companies were accused of abandoning elderly residents at their facilities during the deadly Tubbs Fire in 2017.
On Tuesday, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors set the September date for the vote.
The move to possibly replace Ravitch, who s been in office since 2011, officially qualified for the ballot earlier in May. That was when officials validated that developer Bill Gallaher s effort had accumulated at least 30,056 signatures. Gallaher has spent $800,000 in his quest to force an early end to Ravitch s tenure, according to reports. ....
