In a do-or-die game for the Chattanooga Mocs softball team, seniors Hayleigh Weissenbach and Cameren Swafford each homered and combined to drive in three runs during a thrilling 6-3 win over Southern Conference rival Samford on Sunday afternoon inside Jim Frost Stadium.

Following the win, Chattanooga (13-23, 8-8 SoCon) clinches a spot in this week s SoCon Championship as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 Western Carolina on Thursday, May 13, at 3 p.m. ET in Greensboro, N.C. Samford falls to 18-27 overall, 7-11 in the league and has been eliminated from postseason contention. ....

App's Millner Named SoCon Wrestler of the Month

Southern Conference champion and automatic NCAA Championships qualifier Jonathan Millner of App State has been named the SoCon Wrestler of the Month for February.
A redshirt junior from Greensboro, Millner went 4-0 last month with three wins against ranked opponents, including a 2-0 victory against Campbell’s Joshua Heil during a top-15 showdown in the SoCon Championship final at 149 pounds. At the time, Heil was ranked 11th in the country at that weight, and Millner has earned a No. 7 seed in his 33-man bracket for next week’s NCAA competition in St. Louis.
In February, Millner also had two major decisions against another ranked opponent, Selwyn Porter of The Citadel, after posting a 10-0 major decision against VMI’s Job Chishko. Millner won by scores of 13-1 and 10-2 (in a SoCon semifinal) against Porter, a 2020 NCAA qualifier. ....

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (The Charlotte Observer) - The first two tickets from North Carolina to the NCAA tournament have been punched, and no one saw the second team coming.
Moments after conference favorite UNC Greensboro topped Mercer for the SoCon championship, fourth-seeded Appalachian State upset top-seed Georgia State, 80-73, on Monday night to win Sun Belt tournament. The win secures the first trip to the NCAA tournament for the Mountaineers (17-11) since 2000.
It will be only the school’s third all-time trip to the big dance, and the Mountaineers have Michael Almonacy to thank. The graduate transfer from Southern New Hampshire University had the best game of his torrid tournament, dropping in six 3-pointers and a career-high 32 points to lead Appalachian State, which trailed by a pai ....
