Saugus food/necessities drive a resounding success

The latest food/necessities drive coordinated by the town proved to be the most successful yet.
Volunteers who helped organize the drive at the Saugus Senior Center on March 6 were thrilled to see the amount of food and essential items that people dropped off.
Boxes overflowed with nonperishables, toiletries and other necessities that were brought to the Saugus United Parish Food Pantry and Senior Center. It was the fourth drive spearheaded by the Board of Selectmen and Town Manager Scott Crabtree.
“It was our biggest one by far,” Selectman Debra Panetta said. “I was overwhelmed by how much food was dropped off. People were so generous, it really touched my heart.” ....

Saugus seniors struggle to schedule COVID-19 immunizations

In recent days, the Saugus Senior Center has fielded numerous calls from senior citizens frustrated with their inability to book an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
“We’re hearing from residents age 75 and over who don’t have computers and don’t know how to get the vaccine,” said Senior Center Executive Director Joanne Olsen.
Under the state’s rollout plan, residents age 75 and older are eligible to receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine starting Feb. 1.
Gov. Charlie Baker has encouraged people 75 and up to go to the state’s website at mass.gov/covidvaccine to find a vaccination site and schedule an appointment to be immunized. ....
