Kochi/Coimbatore: A day after seizing fake currencies to the tune of Rs 1.8 crore and arresting two men, the Kerala police on Thursday arrested two more people involved in the case in the city. The two men arrested on Thursday were identified as Mohamed Rishad, 30, from Karumbukadai and Azharuddin, 28, from Vasantham Nagar in Podanur. The two as well as Syed Sultan and Ashraf Ali who were arrested on Wednesday night were produced in a court here to obtain a transit warrant so that they can be taken to Kerala for further interrogation. So far, the Kochi city police along with the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) of the Kerala police had seized fake currency to the tune of Rs 1.8 crore from Coimbatore in a joint operation and arrested five people, including Rasheed from Thrissur. ....

Coimbatore: The Kerala police have arrested two men from Coimbatore and confiscated counterfeit currency to the tune of Rs 1.8 crore from their houses on Wednesday. The two were identified as Syed Sultan, 32, of Al Ameen Colony in Ukkadam, and Ashraf, 24, from Vallal Nagar in Karumbukkdai. The Kerala police said that they had arrested a person from Kochi a few days back on charges of possessing and circulating counterfeit currency notes. Based on the information he gave, a team of Kochi police came to Coimbatore and searched the houses of Syed Sultan and Ashraf. They found bundles of counterfeit currency notes of Rs 2,000 denomination stacked in their houses. In all, police seized the notes with a face value of Rs 1.8 crore. Police said they would take the two to Kochi where they would interrogate the source of the fake notes. ....
The case prima facie has no extremism linkage, say ATS sources In a joint operation straddling Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the Kochi City police and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested five persons and seized fake notes of the value of ₹1.80 crore. The operation lasted through the late-night hours of Wednesday into the early hours of Thursday. It was connected to a case registered by the Udayamperoor police following the seizure of ₹1.74 lakh on March 27. Immediately thereafter, the police had made four arrests, thus taking the total number of people arrested in the case to nine. Among the arrested were Ashraf Ali aka Settu, 29, Mohammed Rishad, 30, Syed Sultan, 32, and Azharuddeen aka Ashique, 28, all from Coimbatore. ....
