It is widely believed that Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah was born in Karachi. But some local oral traditions say that he was born in Jherruck, a town in present-day Thatta district of Sindh. The proponents of the latter opinion point to a textbook published in Sindh in the 1950s to support their contention, which mentions that the Quaid-i-Azam was, indeed, born in Jherruck.

HYDERABAD:
The Sindh High Court has asked the provincial government not to charge the SHC s employees present market rates for the allotment of 100 acres land in Hyderabad for establishing a cooperative housing society.
The Hyderabad circuit bench noted on Thursday that the allotment of the land in Ganjo Takkar deh, in Latifabad taluka, in favour of SHC Employees Cooperative Housing Society was supposed to be made in 2017.
During the hearing, additional advocate general (AAG) Allah Bachayo Soomro submitted an informal copy of the provincial government s scrutiny committee s recommendations in light of its April 8 meeting. The meeting suggested 50 per cent of the current market price at Rs3.5 million per acre of land in C category for the housing society.
Only a few districts in Sindh can match Jamshoro’s diversity. The existence of higher seats of learning, a vast industrial area, massive tourism potential, Asia’s biggest freshwater lake Manchhar, reserves of natural resources of gas and oil (four in number), the rain-fed Darawat dam, tobacco cultivation and large hilly tracks make it distinctive in Sindh. And above all shines the ethereal beauty of the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Jamshoro’s Sehwan taluka, which attracts people from across Pakistan, nay the subcontinent.
One could write a painful saga about the Manchhar lake in Jamshoro. It attains significant political importance when it comes to the debate on interprovincial irrigation water distribution due to the Kotri barrage, the last controlling point over river Indus. The barrage is considered a benchmark for judicious water distribution among provinces under the 1991 accord.
