Cyber Police Kashmir Saves Rs 6 Lakhs Lost In Remote Access Mobile Application Scam
SRINAGAR: Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone, Srinagar on Wednesday claimed to have recovered Rs 6 lakh from online fraudsters.
In a statement, Cyber Police said that multiple complaints were received in past one week wherein complainants were duped by fraudsters through ‘Remote Access Mobile Application Scam’.
“Many complainants were duped of lakhs of rupees on the software platform. The scamsters impersonated BSNL/JIO customer care representatives and sent fake messages on the victims’ mobile phones asking them to complete the KYC of their sim cards and giving a warning message that the SIM cards will be deactivated in case they failed to comply with the directions,” the Cyber Police in a statement said.

The Cyber Police Kashmir stated that they are receiving complaints regarding various online frauds, scams, and other cyber-related crimes on a routine basis. During the past one month, Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone, Srinagar received multiple complaints wherein complainants have been duped by fraudsters in OTP and UPI frauds, the police said in a press statement on Tuesday.
It stated that in one incident, a complainant was duped of Rs 2.00 lakhs through UPI scam stating that he wanted to seek a refund for the cancellation of his ticket. Srinagar, May 11 : Kashmir cyber police said on Tuesday that it has successfully recovered Rs 13 lakh which were collected in multiple cyber frauds by scamsters.
A police spokesman said that in one incident, one complainant was duped of Rs 2 lakh through UPI scam. The complainant had dialed a fake Air Asia Airlines Call Centre number that he found on Google search. He wanted to seek a refund for the cancellation of his ticket. As he was struggling to find a customer care number, he googled it and dialed a number from the search results.
