More than half of the City of Grande Prairie’s current homeless population self-identified as Indigenous, according to a recent census among the homeless.
“Fifty-one per cent of the people that counted themselves self-identified as Indigenous,” said Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton following the Protective and Social Services Committee on June 22. “Within the strategy, there are a couple of specific items that will work with the Indigenous population, in particular, council’s consideration of next term introducing an Indigenous liaison.”
