Indigenous peoples make up disproportionate number of homeless population

Article content More than half of the City of Grande Prairie’s current homeless population self-identified as Indigenous, according to a recent census among the homeless. “Fifty-one per cent of the people that counted themselves self-identified as Indigenous,” said Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton following the Protective and Social Services Committee on June 22. “Within the strategy, there are a couple of specific items that will work with the Indigenous population, in particular, council’s consideration of next term introducing an Indigenous liaison.” We apologize, but this video has failed to load.
