How has technological evolution from 2G to 5G impacted service quality?
Service quality is a factor of so many variants, including the ability to invest in infrastructure. We have moved from 2G to 2.5G and to 3G, 4G and 5G and all these technologies have positively impacted on the telecoms sector and other sectors of the economy. Most times, telecoms operators face insecurity challenges and threats to telecoms facilities and all these could affect service quality. ....

House Adopts E-Transmission of Results 'Where Practicable', Opposition Walks Out


NCC: Nigeria lacks adequate network coverage for seamless electronic transmission of results

The House of Representatives yesterday passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, amid a walkout staged by opposition members, with the controversial Clause 52(2) intact, adding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) “may transmit results of the election through electronic means where and when practicable”.
The Senate passed same bill on Thursday but added that the “Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) must certify that national coverage is adequate and secure, while the national assembly must approve,” before INEC can adopt E-transmission of results.
Yesterday, when the clause-by-clause consideration of the bill was being done, the deputy speaker, Idris Wase, who presided over the sitting, skipped clause 52, and said it would be revisited after all other clauses had been considered. ....

Potential for Malaysia to be HDC hub


The government had granted permission for global tech giants such as Microsoft, Google and Amazon to build and manage HDCs and provide hybrid cloud services in the country.
WHILE hyperscale data centres (HDCs) are a growth area with a lot of investment being earmarked, a debate has ensued about whether regulation would do it good.
Sources say that the industry’s regulator has sought feedback from players on the pros and cons of regulation and what form should regulation take.
On why regulation would be good for the industry, one source explains: “According to information we have been given, the rationale for having regulation for data centres and cloud businesses is that by having licensing of these services, the players would be ensured a level of protection. This in turn would attract more investments into the sector. ....

• Governor taps Airtel for statewide roll out
The Kaduna State Government has announced a strategic and exclusive partnership with telecommunications services provider, Airtel Nigeria, to modernise and digitalise its entire telecoms and network infrastructure, as well as deploy broadband services to the six million people in the state. 
  
Speaking during an MoU signing ceremony with the leadership of Airtel Nigeria, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, said the partnership is a significant step in improving the quality of life and boosting productivity in the State as the entire world has gone digital while noting that the government under his leadership is in a hurry to deliver on its electoral promises as well as empowering and transforming lives. ....
