7 SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The 23rd Army Band performed an Armed Forces Day concert for service members, veterans, and the Utah community at the Murray Park Amphitheater on May 15, 2021.
The concert served as a platform to recognize Utah s service members of the year. Those in attendance included Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox and Maj. Gen. Michael Turley, the adjutant general of the Utah National Guard. At every turn over the past year, it was our military members who stepped up in so many different ways to support our community and state, said Cox. Today, we are here to honor those service men and women.

Each year, the United Service Organizations (USO) honors the heroism of junior enlisted service members, E-5 or below, with the USO Service Member of the Year Awards. Service members from each branch of the military are nominated by their command leadership for performing acts of valor that go above and beyond the call of duty and who embody the standards and values of the Armed Forces and the USO.

Dan Hoedl are local veterans who received the prestigious Ssgt. Andrew P. Nelson award for outstanding leadership and service. The SSgt Andrew P Nelson award for outstanding leaderships and service was developed to recognize local veterans who quietly make a difference in their community in the way that they work, volunteer and make life better for others.
Dr. Dale Miller, assistant principal at Davies High School, has been named the North Dakota Assistant Principal of the Year by the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals (NDASSP). Now designated a state winner by NDASSP, Miller is eligible to be the 2021 NASSP National Assistant Principal of the Year. When Davies High opened in 2011, Dale moved to an assistant principal at Davies High school where he is currently working.
