RANCHI: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has identified over illegal 200 buildings constructed on the catchment areas of various water bodies and in other parts of the city and served notices to some of them for demolition. Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, RMC commissioner Mukesh Kumar said that the civic body isn’t targeting anyone and is merely following the provisions of the Jharkhand Municipality Act, 2011. “By the power vested in RMC by Section 437(4) of the Jharkhand municipality Act, it is the civic body’s mandate to demolish any illegal structure within its limits. The orders have been passed after following the due procedure,” Kumar added. ....

A middle-aged couple from Uttar Pradesh travelled 850km to Bengal and got admitted to a private hospital in Chinsurah after six hospitals turned them away in their home state, citing an oxygen scarcity that chief minister Yogi Adityanath refuses to admit. The couple are from Ayodhya, the theatre of the BJP’s ascent that is set to have a Ram temple to satisfy the party’s ambitions but whose people, like their peers elsewhere in Uttar Pradesh, find life-saving oxygen hard to come by in a crisis. Ranchi: State health minister Banna Gupta on Thursday said the government will not hesitate in taking action against those private healthcare facilities which are unwilling cooperate with the state in its fight against Covid-19. Gupta’s remarks came after representatives of a few private hospitals in Ranchi did not turn up for a high-level meeting held at the Institute of Public Health in Namkum to review the Covid-19 situation in Jharkhand despite the health minister inviting them. “I have directed the MD of National Health Mission (NHM) to issue a show-cause notice to those who didn’t turn up for today’s meeting. I have also directed senior officials to conduct a surprise inspection of such hospitals and if they are found flouting government norms, they will be booked under the Disaster Management Act, 2005,” Gupta said after the meeting. ....
