Fiji born novelist Blair Robertson has completed his third novel, Na Duna Navatu: A Fiji tale (The eel of Navatu), the third book of the Kaiviti series.
The story is set in 500BC, at a time when the Lapita people, the Pacific Islands’ first known inhabitants, vanished from the archaeological record.
The Lapita people were distinguishable through their unique and intricate pottery designs, perhaps of people riding on the backs of giant sea turtles.
At around 500BC, that distinctive pottery disappeared across the Pacific and was replaced with plainware pottery. ....

Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong says this is not a time for finger-pointing or blaming.
He says there’s a great deal of frustration among the public, and on social media, aimed at the quarantine guards that were at the epicenter of this latest COVID-19 outbreak.
Doctor Fong says the fact that quarantine guards, who were on the front lines of containing COVID for a full year, suffered a lapse that allowed the virus to escape into Viti Levu is evidence of how unforgiving this virus is of even the smallest lack of care or act of forgetfulness. ....

2 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed for Fiji – 1 is from Ra while another is a case that stayed at the Makoi family’s home.
This brings the total number of known COVID cases in Fiji to 111 since our first case was detected on March 19th 2020. 44 of these cases are currently active and isolated.
Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong says after 685 laboratory tests and 20,201 in-person health screenings yesterday, they have the 2 new cases. Doctor Fong says 1 patient, the 110th in Fiji, is of some concern, and it will require additional investigation into his contacts to determine if he is definitively linked to other active cases. ....
