ServSafe class offered in Juniata County by Penn State | News, Sports, Jobs

Apr 21, 2021 MIFFLINTOWN The ServSafe Food Safety Manager Course, conducted by Penn State Extension, is being held at the Walker Grange, 6611 William Penn Highway, Mifflintown, PA from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, May 10, and classroom work from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 17, with the certification exam beginning that day at noon. This training will be taught by Sharon McDonald, Senior Extension Educator and certified ServSafe instructor and will help participants learn how to prevent contamination of food by properly receiving, storing, preparing, cooking, cooling and serving the food, as well as proper methods of sanitizing foodservice facilities. After completing the course and passing the multiple-choice exam with a 75 percent or higher score, participants will receive a ServSafe Food Protection Manager certificate. This certification is good for five years.

The 12-week job training program in Fort Pierce prepares graduates for careers in the food production industry. It’s designed to help them develop their skills and move into new roles. As many struggle with employment during the pandemic, the program is meant to serve as an option for improving a person’s future potential. President and CEO Judith Cruz says students will learn the principles of cooking, cleanliness, food service operation, and designing a menu. The course has been offered for 4 years, but it’s even more vital right now.
