Buoyed by their recent strategic plan and academic work proving the link between surfing locations and key biodiversity areas, this ambitious goal aligns with the larger collective conservation goal of protecting 30% of marine resources by 2030. “When we protect a wave, we are protecting much more than that. The analysis always takes into consideration the increasing number of harmful coastal developments and pollution events that threaten surf spots. Surf economics quantifies the economic benefits that surf tourism brings to local communities while simultaneously addresses and promotes the need for a coastal conservation mindset. ....
