FARMINGDALE – Robert Gentry Harris Jr., 84, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 13, 2021, at his home in Farmingdale. He was born on Jan. 14, 1937, to Robert and Nancy Harris in Ayden, N.C.
He graduated from Ayden High School in 1955. He then earned a B.A. at High Point College and a M.Div. at Duke University. Robert then attained the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps in a 32-year career that included deployments to Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm. ....

Chief of Army Staff Hails Troops for Quelling Insurrection in South-east

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, has applauded troops of 82 Division of the Nigerian Army for quelling insurrection and arson in the South-east.
Yahaya praised them during a combined special church service held in commemoration of the 2021 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) at St. Martin’s Military Catholic Church, Abakpa Military Cantonment in Enugu.
The service was to celebrate the 158 birthday of the Nigerian Army and its service to the nation and humanity.
Yahaya, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, saluted the courage, patriotism, loyalty and commitment of the troops in defence of the nation. ....

Panama City, FLA. – Mr. Rooter of Northwest Florida recently helped sponsor the 19th annual Covenant Care Mardi Gras Mask Gala. The event which was held on June 5th from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Edgewater Beach Resort helped fund a variety of programs within the Covenant Care Foundation. According to the Panama City plumbing company, those programs included Children’s Support Services, Indigent Patient Care, Bereavement Services, Chaplain Services, and Volunteer Services. All of these are not reimbursed through Medicaid, Medicare, or insurance.
The Mardi Gras Mask Gala featured live entertainment, a seated dinner, live and silent auctions, and a 50/50 drawing. Those who attended the Gala were asked to don their finest masquerade, along with their brightest festival formal wear in celebration of the Mardi Gras Carnival. Armed Forces Day: Buhari, others honour fallen heroes

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday led other senior government officials to honour the memories of fallen heroes on the occasion of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The event, which took place at the National Arcade, Abuja, saw the president leading Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the service chiefs in laying wreaths.
Other senior government officials who laid wreaths at the ceremony included the Senate President, Dr Ahmed Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; and the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad.
Also participating were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari; the Minister for the FCT, Mallam Mohammed Bello, among others. ....

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in Abuja reminded Nigerians of the need to guard jealously the unity of the nation which was won at great cost.
Buhari made the call when he presided over the wreath-laying at the National Memorial Arcade to mark the end of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration (AFRDC).
The event marked the climax of the 2021 AFRDC, which started with the inauguration of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem and Appeal Fund where the president appealed to Nigerians to desist from actions and comments that could jeopardise the unity and progress of the nation. ....
