Stan Lee and Dr. Seuss proved that World War II was not only about guns and bombs. A few years after Stan Lee died, a story about his time with Dr. Seuss during World War II re-emerged again. Before becoming the brain and heart of Marvel, Stan Lee began working on his comics in 1939. As an assistant at Timely Comics (which would eventually become Marvel), he honed his skills until he landed on his first big break in 1941. His two-page project for Captain America Comics #3 opened his way toward working with Theodor Seuss Dr. Seuss Geisel. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stan Lee revealed that his role in the army during wartime changed after his enlistment. ....
Print Musician-turned-mystery-writer Corey Lynn Fayman took top honors in the 2021 San Diego Book Awards for “Ballast Point Breakdown,” a wisecracking novel that features a guitar-playing detective, Navy SEALs, and trained dolphins. The book received the Geisel Award, a best-in-show prize named after Ted “Dr. Seuss” Geisel, who wrote many of his best-selling and influential children’s books while living in La Jolla. “Ballast Point Breakdown” is the fourth book by Fayman, who has also worked day jobs as a keyboard player, sound-designer, and college instructor. All the stories feature Rolly Waters, an eccentric detective the author created (he writes on his website) out of “boredom and a warped sense of literary ambition.” ....

Board members whisked Gruccio into an executive session” giving family and colleagues, past and present, time to slip into the Landis auditorium for the surprise farewell. A 1971 Vineland High School graduate, Gruccio came back to the district after earning her degree.
