By Press Association 2021 Fleet Moss restoration as part of the Great North Bog scheme led by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (Yorkshire Peat Partnership/PA) A raft of new projects that store carbon and restore habitats have been unveiled by the Wildlife Trusts as part of efforts to tackle the climate and nature crises. The 12 schemes include improving fragmented wetlands across four counties in England and Wales to pave the way for reintroducing beavers, restoring peatland in five counties and expanding saltmarsh along the Essex coast. The schemes by the coalition of 46 nature charities employ “nature based solutions”, using landscapes and habitats to tackle climate emissions and impacts at the same time as helping to reverse declines in the natural world. ....
A WARNING has been issued over the dangers of jumping into the River Dee from Chester s Grosvenor Bridge as the hot and sunny weather looks set to continue over the coming weeks. Police are also reminding people that bathing is prohibited in Hatchmere Lake in Delamere due to the toxic levels of algae in the water. Temperatures are forecast to reach highs of between 19C and 23C over the next fortnight which often leads people cooling off in the nearest body of water. Jumping into the Dee off the Grosvenor Bridge is a regular feature of summers in the city – but police are advising people against it due to numerous dangers including river traffic, strong currents and low water temperatures despite the hot weather. ....
