We Can't Stop Looking at These Stunning Impact Craters on Mars

On dusty, dry, arid Mars, the landscape is stark and bare. No oceans or lakes, no forests, certainly no cities. The result is a world almost utterly alien, its scarred surface exposed under an orange sky. ....

Using data collected by NASA’s Mars InSight lander, which has been on the red planet since 2018, researchers have confirmed the planet’s center to be molten.
This comes from three papers published in “Science” on July 22, 2021, that used data collected by InSight’s seismometer to provide details previously unknown about the composition of Mars’ crust, mantel and core, confirming the planet has a molten center, whereas Earth’s outer core is molten and its center is solid. ....

NASA Insight lander reveals Mars' deep interiors for 1st time

NASA Insight lander reveals Mars deep interiors for 1st time
Before NASA s InSight spacecraft touched down on Mars in 2018, the rovers and orbiters studying the Red Planet concentrated on its surface

Washington: NASA s Insight lander has revealed deep interiors of the Red Planet for the first time, confirming that the planet s centre is molten (Earth s outer core is molten while its inner core is solid).
Three papers based on the seismometer s data on stationary lander were published in the journal Science, providing details on the depth and composition of Mars crust, mantle and core.
The scientists found the crust was thinner than expected and may have two or even three sub-layers. It goes as deep as 20 kms if there are two sub-layers, or 37 kms if there are three. ....

Previously unseen star formation in Milky Way detected in new study

updated: Jul 23 2021, 19:04 ist
An international team of astronomershas carried out an extensive new survey of the Milky Way, revealing previously unseen signatures with unprecedented sensitivity and details that hint at how stars form and die, complex processes that have fascinated researchers for centuries.
The results were published in a series of papers in
Astronomy & Astrophysics by the team, which includes scientists from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST).
The data for the survey, which spanned a large part of the Milky Way, was gathered using two powerful radio telescopes: the Karl G Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, USA, and theEffelsberg100-m radio telescope operated by the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy Germany, as part of the GLOSTAR (Global View on Star formation in the Milky Way) project. ....

Mars InSight: mission unveils surprising secrets of red planet’s interior – new research
A third study identified eight low-frequency marsquakes that produced both direct and reflected waves, and used these to create and test different models of the Martian crust and mantle.By comparing the data and the models, they found that Marss lithosphere is between 400km and 600km thick.

We may have walked on the Moon and sent probes across the solar system, but we know very little about what s going on inside other planets. Now, for the first time, we have been able to view the interior of one, thanks to Nasa s Mars InSight probe. The probe, which landed in 2018, is equipped with a solar-powered lander bristling with equipment, including a seismometer (a very sensitive vibration detector). ....
