While the state determines who gets vaccines, counties are in charge of distribution
At a press conference at the end of December, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said that while state officials would be in charge of determining which facilities and hospitals received shipments of the vaccine,
individual counties would be in charge of distribution.
That means that the process of administering the vaccine will depend on county guidelines: while some counties will offer the doses at
specific locations, others will
deploy teams
to facilities to give out the vaccine, like Palm Beach County has done with its senior communities.
DeSantis added that he expects most counties to get more of the recently approved Moderna vaccine in early January.

A South Florida hospital is beginning to open the COVID-19 vaccination process to the public.
Starting today all seniors 65-years-old and older, community healthcare providers and staff, and EMS personnel can make appointments to get their first of two shots through Broward Health.
Ambulatory Services Medical Director Dr. Aldo Calvo says they have plenty of Moderna doses available with a goal of inoculating between ten and 20 an hour. Depending on what the demand is, and we expect it to be quite large, we will also be replenished to continue this program as so long as it takes to vaccinate as many people as we can.
The governor made the announcement at a South Florida stop on Wednesday while hospitals in the area begin the process of giving the much sought COVID vaccine to members of the public.
DeSantis spoke at an event held at the Kings Point complex in Delray Beach, where 300 residents were given the vaccine and others are hoping to become some who will receive the vaccine once it s available to the general public.

The Department of Health in Broward County announced Wednesday it would begin giving vaccinations to residents ages 65 and older starting Sunday. Residents can register by clicking on this link, but are advised that appointments are limited at this time.
