Independent staff and submitted information The 2021 Peony Pageant, originally to take place in April, was cancelled and rescheduled when some state-ordered mandates were lifted and revised. In order to crown a queen and award scholarships, this year’s contestants will be competing at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 5, in the S.F. Goedde Building gymnasium. Per committee and pageant rules and regulations, the contestants will be scored by a panel of judges. Shown are the nine young women competing in this year’s Peony Festival Pageant. photos provided Each year, the Peony Festival Pageant Committee sends area schools in Van Wert, Paulding, Mercer, Allen, and Putnam counties applications to submit one senior candidate to represent their school in the pageant. Earliest memory of Glasgow? I am 84 now but I still remember the sound of the bombs dropping on the night of the Clydebank Blitz, March 13, 1941. My sister Alice was born that night. The ambulance came to take my mother to Rottenrow Maternity Hospital. Favourite cinema? The first picture house I went to was the St James Paramount on Stirling Road, in Townhead. The locals called it ‘the buggy’…. My favourite was the Carlton. One or two of us would pay to get in, whilst the rest would skip in through the back door.
