RMT is in dispute with Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) over a 0.5 per cent pay proposal for 2020-21. It said that the Scottish government had offered 3 per cent to other public-sector workers earning under £80,000. In a letter to Mr Wheelhouse, the Minister for Islands, Energy and Connectivity, the union alleged that CalMac’s negotiating team had “point-blank refused to move on that initial offer and even refused to meet the trade unions.” RMT said that CalMac members had lost out after fellow ferry contractor Serco NorthLink accepted the union’s demand for a 1 per cent pay increase. CalMac expressed the belief that its pay offer was fair amid “unprecedented economic pressures,” pointing to furlough support offered to staff. ....
