Sandiganbayan orders ex-chief of DPHW 7 to pay agency P1.5M

THE Sandiganbayan Seventh Division has approved the plea bargain of former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 director Juanito Abergas, who faced three graft charges over the illegal reimbursement of his official travel expenses amounting to P1.8 million from 2002 to 2005.
Aside from finding Abergas guilty of a lesser offense of failure of accountable officer to render accounts, which is penalized under Article 218 of the Revised Penal Code (from the original charges of violation of Section 3 (e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act), the Sandiganbayan also imposed the corresponding penalty of P6,000 for each of Abergas’ criminal offense and a total of P1,484,406.19 as civil liability to be paid to the DPWH 7. ....

Covid-19 hazard pay granted to state workers in MECQ areas

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has approved the grant of P500 per day Covid-19 hazard pay to government employees who are authorized to physically report for work in areas under and modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
Administrative Order No. 43, which Duterte signed on June 1, said local government units (LGUs) down to the barangays, and government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) that don’t have enough funds may grant a lower but uniform rate to qualified employees.
Entitled to receive the hazard pay are personnel of national government agencies, state universities and colleges, and GOCCs.
The hazard pay may be granted to authorized personnel without need for approval of the Department of Budget and Management ....
