The prospect of waterproof wheelchairs and adult change tables in Town of Saugeen Shores facilities are two ideas being championed by the Town’s Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) in its efforts to create a barrier-free community.
AAC chair Maureen Crawford set the scene for her recent update to Town councillors with a quote from Andrew Gurza, a self-described Disability Awareness Consultant and Cripple Content Creator: “Accessibility is a feeling in your body. It isn’t just about whether you can get in the space as a disabled person with ramps, buttons or elevators, but it is how you feel as a disabled person in the room.” ....

When Saugeen Shores voters go to the polls 18 months from now they will cast ballots using the Internet or telephone to elect a new slate of Town councillors and school board trustees.
On the advice of Town Clerk Linda White, councillors passed a bylaw April 26 for the system that is convenient – electors can vote anywhere using a computer, tablet or phone, 24/7, until 8 p.m. on Election Day – and requires less staff time.
