New beach club set to open in York city centre
YORK residents and visitors to the city are set to get a taste of life at the seaside this summer.
The YO1 Beach Club is a brand-new family-friendly space on the banks of the river Ouse in Tower Gardens at the foot of Skeldergate Bridge, opening on Thursday, June 24 and running until Sunday, September 5.
The club will comprise a wood-panelled covered café and veranda with a boardwalk entrance across a beach area styled with striped deckchairs, bunting, and lobster pots. Four brightly coloured beach huts on the sand will serve teas and coffees, ice creams, as well as beach apparel and toys. There will also be an open barbeque serving a choice of delicious grilled food as well as a menu for kids. The café menu includes refreshing mocktails, milkshakes and coke floats as well as coffee and a non-alcoholic range of drinks. Kids birthday and party packages are also available, with advance bookings being taken. ....

Visit York targets staycationers in £61k #LoveYork campaign

SCENES of York and its attractions will be beamed across the small screen in a bid to promote the city as a staycation destination.
Visit York, the leisure tourism brand of Make It York, is launching a new summer marketing campaign, #LoveYork, to support tourism, leisure and hospitality businesses in their recovery.
It aims to inspire people to choose York for their summer holiday and spend more in the city.
The campaign which is costing £61,000 will include an eight-week TV campaign which will go live on Channel 4 from Monday, May 17, when more restrictions lift.
As previously reported, City of York Council agreed to transfer the remaining £64,000 of the Covid tourism marketing budget to Make It York to support the Visit York / Tourism Advisory Board 2021 leisure marketing campaign. ....

York's ice trail is set to return in 2022

YORK’S popular ice trail is set to return in 2022.
The event was cancelled this year due to lockdown restrictions - but tourism body Make It York is already making plans for the trail to return in February 2022.
A spokesperson said the event, which is the UK’s biggest outdoor ice trail, will take place on February 5 and 6.
More than 31,000 followed the trail in 2020 when its theme was ‘fantastical fiction and fairy tales’.
Forty sculptures were placed across the city and interactive ice carving walls, live demonstrations and family activities took place alongside the displays.
The theme for next year’s trail has not yet been revealed. ....
