Cyclone Tauktae, the most powerful storm to hit the region in more than two decades, came ashore in Gujarat state with heavy rain, a battering storm surge and sustained winds of up to 165km/h, the India Meteorological Department said. ....

Rescue helicopters, police and three nearby fishing boats joined the search for the boat off Cape Palliser. A broken mayday call was sent from the boat at 5am today after it began taking on water.
