Shreveport is a hybrid of ArkLaTex elements and therefore its own thing entirely too Cajun to resemble its geographical neighbors in East Texas, too landlocked to feel like New Orleans, too libertine to feel like the Bible belt. Here are a few ways to take it in.
Diesel’s New Song ‘Six Steel Strings’ Is A Ross Wilson Song
If you think that new Diesel song has a bit of a Daddy Cool feel to it then you would be right. Diesel co-wrote ‘Six Steel Strings’ 30 years ago with Daddy Cool/Mondo Rock legend Ross Wilson.
“It was 1991”, says Diesel, “I think Ross (Wilson) saw me as a young bluesman in a long tradition. He asked about my background and put details into the lyrics, a tongue-in-cheek take on my life story in demo form that we knocked up together in an hour. It was only rediscovered when he moved house last year, and the timing couldn’t have been better because it’s such a perfect fit.”
Underrated Nirvana: The Most Overlooked Song From Each Album
There s nobody in rock history quite like Nirvana.
The grunge icons are celebrated as one of the greatest acts to ever take the stage, yet their entire studio discography is only three albums long. That output is minuscule when compared with other legendary acts. For reference, the Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Beach Boys are among the artists who have released three albums
in one year.
While Nirvana’s quantity of material is small, its quality was unmatched. Their trio of LPs - 1989’s
Nevermind and 1993’s
In Utero - offered equal parts anger and exhilaration. Whether Kurt Cobain was screaming at the top of his lungs or delivering lyrics in fragile hush tones, his band maintained an uncanny ability to resonate with listeners. It was a sound that connected with an entire generation of music lovers. So, while the Nirvana’s time together was brief, it was undoubtedly phenomenal.

| 07/18/2007 (4 out of 5 stars) I missed the live shows when The Be Good Tanyas opened for Blue Rodeo a few years back so I ve never seen them live. Last week I picked up a copy of their latest record, Hello Love . Not being familiar with Frazey Ford s somewhat garbled vocal delivery, I kind of wondered what I d just bought. After repeated listens though, Frazey s voice grows on me and I definitely like their laid back but tightly sprung blue grass/new grass style. They do a nice cover of Neil Young s For the Turnstiles and the hidden track at the end of the record is an interesting bluegrass version of Prince s When Doves Cry that actually gives Prince a run for the money. Now if they d only done a cover of The Beatles Don t Pass Me By , I would have been in blue grass heaven or at least I would have gotten my rockin shoes on! Some of the traditional numbers work and others are so-s

ustin Townes Earle won the Song of the Year prize at the 2011 Americana Music Awards for Harlem River Blues, the title track of his excellent third full-length album and the most upbeat song about suicide you ll ever hear. It s all soaring choirs and pumping organs as the protagonist proclaims, I know the difference between tempting and choosing my fate. When Earle played the song on David Letterman s talk show (with future star Jason Isbell accompanying on guitar) 10 years ago this month, the rootsy performance elicited an unusually effusive reaction from the host, and seemed to mark a launch into a new stage of the 28-year-old Earle s career.
