Wyoming s Milward Simpson Award Finalists for 2021 Revealed

The 2021 finalists have been announced for the prestigious Milward Simpson Award. This honor is given to the most outstanding male and female student-athletes in the state. It is considered the most prestigious award a prep athlete can earn in their high school career. This year’s honor will be presented at a luncheon on June 19, 2021, in Cody, at the Cody Auditorium Club Room. Casper College Sweeps Western Nebraska The Casper College basketball teams renewed their long-standing Region IX rivalry with Western Nebraska on Wednesday night at the Erickson gym and the T-Birds prevailed on the ladies side and the men s side. The Casper College women s team; ranked #10 in the country needed double overtime to beat #22 Western Nebraska 95-88 to improve to 5-0 on the year. At one point during the first half, the Birds were down by 7 and trailed by as many as 13 in the 2nd half. Casper showed a lot of fortitude even though they went just 26-42 from the free-throw line, which was a 62% clip. Casper shot just 34% from the field in the 2nd half and overtimes and was led in scoring by Joseana Vaz with 19, with Natalia Otkhmezuri throwing in 18, and Marija Bakic had 15. Western Nebraska got 12 points from Cheyenne East High School grad Ky Buell. The Casper ladies will host Utah State-Eastern on Thursday night at the Erickson Gym at 5:30.

Payne International Development Graduate Fellowship. (Andhi Susanto Photo) University of Wyoming graduate Emily Wood, from Granite Canyon in Laramie County, is among 15 students nationwide to receive the prestigious USAID Donald M. Payne International Development Graduate Fellowship. The fellowship, for which Wood was among 650 applicants, seeks to attract outstanding individuals interested in pursuing careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The Payne Fellowship, which provides up to $96,000 in benefits over two years for graduate school, internships and professional development activities, is a unique pathway to the USAID Foreign Service.

(Wyoming News Now) - In 2019-2020, the Burns/Pine Bluffs Wrestling team finished third in the region and eighth in the 3A class. Like many teams around the state, COVID-19 has forced Burns/Pine Bluffs to change up how they practice. “I think its been a hard change to change practice for kids because they’re obviously out because they want to wrestle,” Burns/Pine Bluffs Assistant Coach Brittany Mitchell said. “But they have stepped up and realized that the conditioning and the flexibility and the stuff that we’re working on in the hallway is going to make them better in the wrestling room.”
