COVID-19: Plateau State Govt. bans cultural festivals during Christmas, New Year celebrations

Jos, Dec. 23, 2020 The Plateau Government has banned all cultural festivals during Christmas and New Year celebrations, as part of measures to curtail the spread of Coronavirus in the state.
Gov. Simon Lalong announced this at the end of a stakeholders meeting on security and COVID-19 held on Wednesday in Jos.
The governor was represented at the meeting by Prof. Danladi Atu, the Secretary to the State Government, and Coordinator of the State Task force on COVID-19.
Lalong said the decision to ban cultural festivals was to ensure strict compliance with the safety protocols, particularly the social distancing. ....

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state on Wednesday said he had no plan to lock down the state as a response to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
The governor disclosed this on Wednesday in Jos during a meeting he had with stakeholders including Local Government Chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, and health experts to discuss how best to address the situation in line with the advisory of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
A Statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Macham Makut, said the meeting convened by the Governor was presided over by the Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Prof. Danladi Atu, who is also the Coordinator of the State Taskforce on COVID-19. ....

Plateau State government has uncovered plots by some criminal elements to attack some communities in the state during the yuletide season, even as it pointed out that the state will ensure strict compliance to all COVID-19 protocols.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Danladi Atu, who disclosed this at the stakeholders meeting which includes traditional rulers and religious leaders on Wednesday in Jos said the Governor mandated the meeting to foster a more community-driven response to intelligence and surveillance so as to assist security agencies with useful information to enable them to respond to any threat of attack by criminals. ....
