ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In an exclusive interview with Kurdistan 24, retired US Army Lt. Gen. Jay M. Garner said the Kurds in Iraq face three threats, including political disunity.
In 1991, Garner was Commanding General, Joint Task Force Bravo-Operation Provide Comfort in northern Iraq. He was appointed Director of the Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance for Iraq in April 2003, shortly after the second Gulf War began, although he was replaced in May by Ambassador Paul Bremer. ....

WASHINGTON, DC (Kurdistan 24) – Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and, until 2017, the long-time President of the Kurdistan Region, joined on Wednesday in marking the 30th anniversary of Operation Provide Comfort (OPC).

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – 1st Landing Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, activated, October 15, 2020.
The purpose of this activation is to change the structure of the force and ensure our capabilities are operationally relevant now and into the future.
1st LSB’s roots extend to the activation of 1stt Pioneer Battalion on 7 February 1942, participating in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. Re-designated as the 1st Shore Party Battalion on 1 October 1949, the battalion participated in actions during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Re-designated again as the 1stt Landing Support Battalion, the unit participated in major operations, including Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Provide Comfort, Iraq, and Operation Restore Hope, Somalia, 1st LSB was de-activated in 1998. ....

Veterans Spotlight — Lt. Colonel Peter Uchmanowicz/US Air Force


Peter Uchmanowicz served his country for 24 years in the US Air Force and Air National Guard, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He comes from a military family: his grandfather, Lieutenant John Powers, fought in World War I; his father, Major Lawrence Uchmanowicz, served in Korea and Vietnam; his brother, Joe Uchmanowicz, flew B-52s during Operation Desert Storm; and his son, Nicholas Uchmanowicz, is currently a captain and flight instructor in the US Air Force.
Lieutenant Colonel Uchmanowicz would begin his storied career after graduating from the US Air Force Academy in 1988. He was sent to pilot training in Williams, Arizona, then assigned as a pilot on a KC-135, in-flight refueler. His first assignment was at Griffiss Air Force Base in New York, where he would deploy to Desert Storm in the Middle East. ....
