ZANESVILLE - Women of Achievement Awards were recently presented in seven categories by Ohio University Zanesville, Zane State College and the Muskingum Family Y.
The usual dinner has been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Videos will be posted on social media outlets to honor winners.
Ruth Ann Allen is the recipient of the Muskingum Family Y Lifetime Service Award. She has distinguished herself by inspiring countless students and adults to pursue musical interests. She served as a teacher in the Franklin and Zanesville City school districts, a private voice instructor and a church musician, director and soloist. Allen served on the Ohio Music Teachers Association and Zanesville Concert Association boards and is a past president of the Thursday Music Club. She is a 55-year soloist for Zanesville’s Messiah presentation and a 40-year actor and music director for the Renner Theater. ....

Patrick Gordon, founder of Operation Feed SJ, (OFSJ) is determined to erase poverty in Saint John, one bag of food at a time.
Gordon, a retired army veteran of three Afghanistan tours, was looking for ways to get involved in the community and was inspired after learning children in high poverty areas often rely on getting food through their schools.
“With the schools being shut down at the beginning of the pandemic and then moving forward with the continuous rotation of red, yellow, I just thought ‘There’s no way that people that are in poverty are able to get substantial food to live by,’” said Gordon. ....

Nigeria is Africaâs largest country with the fastest growing population. Consequently, the nationâs food needs continue to rise. However, the increase in food production has not kept pace with population growth. This scenario is mirrored in the rising food imports and declining levels of national food self-sufficiency.
Clearly, one of the main factors undermining agricultural output is the general sub-optimal yield per hectare due to low fertilizer application among other factors. For decades, this has been the bane of the agricultural sector in Nigeria.
Curiously, the role of fertilizers in crop yields and agricultural productivity are usually underestimated by many. That’s why mineral fertilizers are used to supplement the soil’s nutrient stocks with minerals that can be quickly absorbed and used by crops. ....

Best friends and co-founders of 2 Besties Biscuits Paula Brown and Angela Brown have hosted the Operation: Feed the Furballs fundraiser for the Northeast Missouri Humane Society since 2017, providing 17,977 meals for animals at the shelter. For 2021, Finnâs Food and Spirits and Java Jive will have the pink boxes for sale through April 30. Each purchase provides seven meals, and the pink boxes will also be for sale online throughout the year.
