No. 18 Noles Selected to NCAA Cross Country Championships
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 18 Florida State women’s cross country team will compete at the 2020 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on March 15.
Without regional meets this year, 31 teams were chosen based on performances throughout the fall and winter by a committee.
The Seminoles were selected to their third straight NCAAs after finishing third at the ACC Championships in October after taking third at the Blazer Classic. FSU also won the FSU Invite at the Apalachee Regional Park and opened the year taking third at the Mountain Dew Invite in Gainesville, Fla. ....

⚾: Messick Named ACC Pitcher of the Week

Messick, from Plant City, Florida, set career highs with eight innings pitched and 11 strikeouts. He allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter on the evening as FSU shut out the Cavaliers 2-0.
Messick is the first Seminole with double-digit strikeouts since CJ Van Eyk did it in the 2019 ACC Tournament against NC State. His 8.0 innings pitched are the most for a Nole since Drew Parrish reached that mark in the opener of the 2019 College World Series against Arkansas.
Messick led a strong Florida State rotation in the series win against the Cavaliers. Messick, Bryce Hubbart and Conor Grady struck out 26 batters in 21 innings pitched, allowing just nine hits and walking two batters. Messick is FSU’s first player of the week of 2021 and it is his first career ACC Player of the Week honor. ....

Softball Downs No. 5 Florida, 7-2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The No. 16 Florida State softball team (11-4) took it to the fifth-ranked Florida Gators (14-1) on Saturday night, 7-2, handing them their first loss of the season. With the win, Florida State and Florida have now split their last eight meetings. Florida 2, Florida State 7 Kathryn Sandercock started and pitched an absolute gem for the Seminoles. She threw a complete game for the Noles in the circle as she allowed six hits and two runs with six strikeouts. Florida State had an offensive explosion in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five runs on four hits. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch scored the first run. Josie Muffley then laid down a bunt with runners on second and third, scoring the second run of the inning. FSU had on the corners with no outs for Elizabeth Mason, who stepped up to the plate and hit a single to left field scoring two more runs, giving FSU a 4-0 lead. Softball Falls to No. 5 Florida, 5-0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. The No. 16 Florida State softball team (10-4) lost to No. 5 Florida (14-0) on Friday, 5-0. The two teams will meet again in Tallahassee tomorrow at 6 pm.

Caylan Arnold started and pitched four innings for the Noles in the circle as she allowed two hits and one run with five strikeouts.

Danielle Watson entered in relief in the fifth inning and pitched two complete innings, allowing three hits and four runs.

Neither team had anything going until the fourth inning when Florida would get on the board first with a solo home run by Charla Echols to right field.

Florida would extend their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth with their second home run of the game, this one was a three-run shot by Kendyl Lindaman to left field. The Gators would put up one more run in the sixth inning to make it 5-0.
