Mask rules still in effect at State Capitol, despite CDC rule changes

On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that the state would comply with new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rules that say fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear masks or practice social distancing.
Earlier this month, Cuomo had announced many rules on indoor and outdoor gatherings would be eased, and capacity restrictions for restaurants, stores, gyms and offices would be lifted as long as six feet of social distancing can be maintained.
“We are at a point now where we are going to take a major step forward in reopening,” Cuomo said on May 3. ....

Today marks the easing of many COVID-19 restrictions in New York state, but at the state Capitol building, many of those rules remain in place, including mandatory masks in some circumstances.
On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that the state would comply with new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rules that say fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear masks or practice social distancing.

Wednesday marks the easing of many COVID-19 restrictions in New York, but at the State Capitol in Albany many of those rules, including mandatory masks in some circumstances, remain in place.

On Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo said that the state would comply with new Centers for Disease Control rules that say fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear masks outdoors or indoors, or practice social distancing. Cuomo also eased many rules on gatherings indoors and outdoors and lifted capacity restrictions for restaurants, stores, gyms and offices, as long as six feet of  social distancing can be maintained.

Not so fast!  Five minutes later, the masks were back on.  Legislative leaders clarify masks rules remain for now for all lawmakers. ....

State Legislature ends some of Cuomo's pandemic orders

The New York State Legislature for the first time rescinded some of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s restrictions that were put in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic, including an unpopular rule that prohibited bars and restaurants from serving alcohol unless the customer also ordered food.
Lawmakers said with the infection rate going down and vaccinations increasing, the restrictions are no longer needed. Cuomo said he was planning to end the orders anyway.
The Legislature voted to end an executive order that gave rise to the term “Cuomo chips” because bars and restaurants were not allowed to serve alcoholic drinks unless the customer also agreed to buy at least a small amount of food. ....
