Sen. Ernesto “Ernie” Lopez, R-Lewes, will not seek re-election. His current term will end Nov. 8, 2022. 
“It is with a great deal of thanks and humility to the people of the 6th District that I wish to announce I will not be seeking re-election to a fourth term in the Delaware State Senate,” Lopez said in a statement released by the Senate Minority Caucus. “It has been a tremendous honor to serve you and your families for the last decade and I look forward to continuing that dedicated service until the end of my current term.” ....

May 4 Idaho lawmakers found a solution to getting education budgets over the finish line: Cut $2.1 million from university budgets.
A new measure, House Bill 387, was negotiated among Republican lawmakers as they tried to quell fears from a faction of legislators over universities teaching about critical race theory and providing other social justice programs. The cut, along with a bill against critical race theory, helped garner enough votes in the House to approve education budgets.
Senators in a 25-8 vote on Tuesday supported the bill, which previously passed the House and will now need Gov. Brad Little s signature. The legislation would provide nearly $629.9 million for colleges and universities for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1. It would cut $500,000 each from the University of Idaho and Idaho State University and ....

Former legislator pleas not guilty to solicitation, interference charges

A former Wyoming Legislator from Green River entered not guilty pleas to misdemeanor charges of solicitation of prostitution and interference with a peace officer Friday afternoon.
John Hastert, 62, was arrested Thursday after Sweetwater County Sheriff s Office deputies claim Hastert attempted to seek sexual favors from an undercover operative during a sting operation initiated by multiple Wyoming law enforcement agencies. Hastert is also accused of resisting arrest, being taken down by multiple officers as he allegedly tried to avoid being handcuffed.
The solicitation of prostitution charge carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $750 fine while the interference with a peace officer charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a fine of $1,000. Hastert s trial date was set for Sept. 9, 2021. He was issued a bond of $4,500 with 10% cash required by Third Judicial District Circuit Court Judge Craig J ....
