UA Little Rock professor helps pass bill to honor Civil Rights Attorney Scipio Jones

A University of Arkansas at Little Rock history professor helped U.S. Rep. French Hill in his effort to pass legislation to honor Arkansas lawyer Scipio A. Jones. 
Bill H.R. 3317, the Scipio Jones Post Office Portrait Act, was signed into law in December 2020. This achievement is the result of a collaboration between Dr. Brian Mitchell, assistant professor of history at UA Little Rock, and Little Rock attorney John Gill.
“Here in Arkansas, we are deeply proud of Scipio Jones and his important contributions to our state, and to our nation, as a civil rights icon and lawyer. In the wake of the Elaine Race Massacre in 1919, Mr. Jones bravely and successfully defended twelve African American sharecroppers who had been wrongfully charged in connection to a crime they didn’t commit and placed on death row,” Rep. Wyoming's U.S. Attorney Mark Klaassen resigning; will take State of Wyoming post

CASPER, Wyo. Wyoming’s United States Attorney Mark A. Klaasen announced on Wednesday that he will be resigning from the U.S. Attorney’s Office effective at midnight Jan. 31, 2021.
“Upon his resignation, Klaassen will be taking a post with the State of Wyoming,” the announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming said.
Klaassen was nominated to serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming by President Donald Trump in July 2017. He was confirmed by the Senate on Nov. 9 and sworn-in on Nov. 21, 2017. ....

State Clears Unemployment Claims Backlog

The state has cleared its backlog of unemployment claims though the feat does not include claims for additional pandemic assistance.
“Since the start of the pandemic, our top priority at DWD has been ensuring that all eligible unemployment claims in Wisconsin are paid as quickly as possible,” Pechacek said in a statement. “Today, I am proud to say we have reached our goal to clear the backlog of claims. The tireless work of DWD staff has made it possible for UI to resume its seasonal level of timeliness in January.” ....
