Farmers who submitted a petition seeking compensation at a grievance day meeting held at the Collectorate in Thoothukudi on Monday.
THOOTHUKUDI
Seeking compensation for the rain-fed crops destroyed by the recent downpour in the northern parts of the district, over 500 affected farmers came to the Collectorate with the rotten crops to submit petition during the weekly grievances redressal meet held on Monday.
Collector K. Senthil Raj assured the aggrieved agriculturists that a due survey was being taken to give adequate compensation to the affected farmers.
After the northern parts of the district were hit hard by the rain induced by Cyclone Burevi, the recent unseasonal rains triggered rot in the standing crops that include green gram, black gram, corn, maize, pearl millet, chilli, onion and cotton cultivated on over 1.50 lakh acres in Kovilpatti, Kayathar, Ottapidaaram, Ettaiyapuram, Pudur and Vilaathikulam taluks. ....

Good response to clean-up move

The mega cleaning exercise, which was organised across the district on Wednesday to ensure cleanliness everywhere while ensuring ‘smokeless Bhogi’, elicited rousing response from the public.
Since ‘Bhogi’ would always lead to burning of discarded materials and the waste that would pollute seriously the environment every year, Collector K. Senthil Raj mooted this proposal, christened ‘Thooimaiyana Thoothukudi’.
As per this plan, residents living in all local bodies – right from the Corporation to the village panchayats - and the heads of all government offices across the district – right from the Collectorate to the village panchayat office – should ensure the collection of degradable and non-degradable garbage generated on their respective premises between 7.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Wednesday. ....

The district administration has mooted the idea of ensuring ‘smokeless Bhogi’ celebration across the district this year, which is worth emulating across Tamil Nadu.
As per the proposal of Collector K. Senthil Raj, residents living in all local bodies from Corporation to village panchayats and heads of all government offices across the district from the Collectorate to the village panchayat office would ensure the collection of degradable and non-degradable garbage generated on their respective premises on Wednesday (January 13), the Bhogi Day, between 7.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. ....

BENGALURU: India, which will be leveraging infrastructure and manpower created under the country’s Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) for Covid vaccination, has a network of nearly 82 lakh vaccination session sites routinely used by UIP, one of the largest such programmes in the world.
According to a UIP review and multi-year plan document, there are more than 81.87 lakh sites where different vaccines are administered. However, most of these sites will come into play when inoculation of people other than healthcare and frontline workers starts.
In the first phase of Covid vaccination, multiple officials from the national health mission (NHM), which is spearheading Covid vaccination, told TOI, states will use only Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and facilities better than PHCs. ....
