Huge search by Coastguards and RNLI after kayak is found in sea at Brean A Coastguard helicopter and two Burnham-On-Sea RNLI lifeboats carried out a search of the sea off Brean last night (Friday) after an inflatable kayak was spotted without its occupants. The helicopter and lifeboats undertook search patterns of the Bristol Channel over several hours for any sign of the occupants of the kayak, but no-one was found. The yellow and grey inflatable kayak had been found floating in the water without any sign of its owners and Police issued an appeal to find them. A Burnham Coastguard spokesman said: “We were called to reports of an inflatable kayak that had been seen entering the water with two people but then later spotted in the distance with no persons onboard.” ....

Kayakers paddling to Steep Holm Island spark call-out for Burnham-On-Sea lifeboats Two kayakers paddling their way across the channel to Steep Holm Island sparked a call-out for Burnham-On-Sea RNLI’s lifeboats on Saturday morning (July 17th). Milford Haven Coastguard Control called out the lifeboat crews at 10.46am following the sighting of two ‘inflatables’ drifting out to sea from Brean beach. A spokesman says: “Both inshore lifeboats were speedily launched in ideal conditions, and proceeded to the reported area.” “A follow-up observation from the Bridgwater Pilot Boat to Milford Control redefined the inflatables as two kayakers possibly on passage between Brean and Steep Holm Island.” ....
