La Crepe a Moi in Berkeley brings traditional French crepes to Northside

1854 Euclid Ave. (near Hearst Avenue), Berkeley There is something hypnotizing about watching Rebecca or Dj Dahmani create your crepe at La Crepe a Moi. A quick ladle of brown-flecked batter meets the hot griddle, a fluid swirl of the wrist with a little wooden spreader produces a perfectly smooth circle. Suddenly, you are hit by the enticing aromas of sizzling butter and nutty buckwheat. A long spatula allows a deft flip of the crepe exposing its toasty side, then a shower of cheese, perhaps an egg or some ham and the tasty package is folded into a long cone and scooped onto your plate. With your first bite, the delicate shattering of the crepe gives way to a warm, sensuous cascade of melted cheese. Vive la France!

New wine shop from Second Vine Wine proposed for Magazine Street

Sue Strachan, Uptown Messenger The Magazine Street storefront is in transition, with the window painted for the wine shop and the door still bearing the boutique’s logo. The stretch of Magazine Street between Gen. Pershing and Milan streets has seen a lot of comings and goings of businesses through the years, and even more recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One new business that plans to open in the next few months is Second Vine Wine, in the space that most recently housed the Claudia Croazzo clothing store, at 4210-14 Magazine St. If the wine shop’s name is familiar, it’s because Second Vine Wine was previously located in the Marigny Triangle. It closed last year in March, just after the pandemic and lockdowns began.

Ecole Bilingue plans expansion on St Henry s Church complex

Blessed Pauline building at 4219 Constance St. The Ecole Bilingue de la Nouvelle-Orléans received City Planning Commission approval last week to increase its footprint within the St. Henry’s Catholic Church complex with the use of a building for its middle school. The private French immersion school occupies multiple buildings and courtyards within the church grounds for its early childhood, kindergarten, elementary and middle schools. To give the middle school students room to grow in a building of their own, the school wants to lease the Blessed Pauline building at 4219 Constance St. Plans show the interior will be renovated into four classrooms, a science and technology lab, a music room and three offices. Educational facilities are a conditional use under the building’s zoning, requiring city approval before the work starts.
